Day In The Life with LAYNE

I've been doing these "Day In The Life" pieces with idobi Radio for about a year now. They've been some of the most incredible and insightful experiences I've ever had while being involved in music. Each piece has changed my perspective in some way. I learn so much from each of the artists I spend the day with to a point where my notebook is overflowing with topics I want to talk about.

I recently spent the day with LA-based band LAYNE. I'm always really hesitant with pieces when they're with a band I don't know well or at all but hanging out with the LAYNE squad felt natural. They are some of the kindest humans I've ever met. I spent most of the day chatting with Alex (drums) about anything and everything. From how he ended up in LA to the culture in Oregon where he's from. You learn much more about a person/a band from having a conversation as opposed to asking them a list of questions during an interview.

When we got to talking about the dynamic that he and Layne (vocals) have, the one thing that really resonated with me was when he said, "At the end of the day we always tell each other 'I love you', not just like 'hey love you' but 'I fuckin love you'." That really struck a chord with me because it reminded me of my own little family; Young Culture. It was nice to hear such honest words from somebody I had just met. It wasn't something most people would share in an interview or to any 'press' person. It was reassuring for me because it meant that I was accomplishing exactly what I hoped for with these pieces. I even explained to Alex the approach I had with all these Day In The Life sessions. He appreciated how I was going about structuring my pieces. To hear that from a musician reaffirmed that this series I started with idobi is creating an impact. This was just one of many conversations but needless to say, LAYNE is full of bright and talented individuals that I have the pleasure of now knowing.

The full story has gone live on idobi already which you can check out here. But here are a few more images that didn't make it into the piece.
